CONSULTATION & PLANNING

The first step for any new trail project is creating a plan. Through the consulting process, we work with you to understand your project vision. An onsite feasibility study is made to recognise opportunities and limitations within the landscape, in order to ensure that predetermined goals are attainable. Backslope can provide assessments of existing trail infrastructure, GPS mapping data, and planning/design documentation. This level of professional documentation is crucial for future construction estimates, preconstruction permitting, and obtaining grant money for your project. Our goal is to provide you with the information you need, and to help you better understand the various steps involved with turning your dream trail into a reality.

DESIGN

Backslope is prepared to create a design that is specific to your needs. Whether you are adding a single trail to an existing trail system or building a master trail plan from the ground up, onsite flagging is where conceptual plans start to take form. Taking time to scout the woods, discover prominent natural features, and identify problem areas is the best way to ensure that the construction phase of a project goes smoothly. Backslope strives to position a trail within the landscape instead of imposing the trail upon it. Taking rider flow and sustainability into account every step of the way ensures the best possible final product.

CONSTRUCTION

Backslope enters the construction phase of every project with the ultimate goals of user experience and sustainability. After years of working with a large variety of soils on different types of terrain, the Backslope team understands how to work efficiently and safely to construct any type of trail. Utilizing over ten years of trail experience, refined hand building techniques, trail specific machinery, and technological innovations Backslope is able to meet deadlines while also crafting the highest quality product possible.

MAINTENANCE

“A trail is only a moment in time.” ~Ancient trail wisdom

A trail built out of dirt always rides the best, but will always require some level of maintenance. Backslope can evaluate existing trail conditions, create prioritized maintenance schedules, and implement maintenance work, solo or alongside your team. After constructing a new trail, we encourage creating an on-going maintenance plan to ensure that the trail can be enjoyed as it was designed for as long as possible. A small level of maintenance every year will result in the most sustainable trail, long term.
